Lightweight Cyclocross Bike: Steven's Lapierre

Here's one from the Race.cx headquarters. It's really light at 15.5lbs and it's been dependable week in and week out at the races. The stem modification is new for this year and is working
great to keep the front brake really smooth. Enjoy!

Lapierre alloy frame w/ Ritchey WCS fork
Dura Ace carbon tubular wheels
Tufo Flexus tires
Ritchey WCS seatpost and stem
PRO compact handlebar
Selle Italia SLR saddle
Chris King headset
Spooky brakes with swiss stop yellow pads
Campagnolo Record shifters (left one is gutted)
Campagnolo Chorus rear derailleur
Record Chain
Stronglight Pulsion cranks and BB
Single ring setup with 42t chain ring, carbon guard, and Third Eye
Wheels Mfg 11-27 conversion cassette (dura-ace re-spaced for campy shifting)

Any comments on how you did the stem modification. What type of drill bit did you use, and size, different size for top and bottom hole, and did you add any hardware? I'd seen it done a few times in Paris-Rubaix, and would love to try it on my own, but afraid to destroy a stem.

I'll submit my 15.12 lb Chili Con Crosso soon.

Thanks,

Mark

How does this set up improve braking?
